This week (now through Saturday, we are closed Sunday for July 4th) our entire wine selection will be on sale. That’s right: everything from Barolo and Brunello to your favorite table wines will be discounted. This sale is simple: buy three or more bottles and save 15%, buy 6 or more and get 20% off your purchase of vino. This is an excellent time to stock up for your 4th of July gathering, get those crisp summer whites and roses and any other bottle you have been eyeing for a while.
Now for a couple of suggestions on what to consider purchasing: while we are fond of all the wines at Panzano, there are a few labels that shoppers seem to pass over for one reason or another. Let’s shine a light on few wines that we suggest considering for your next purchase starting with the uber-talented winemaker and friend of Tomasso and Panzano, Tony Coturri. Every wine Coturri makes is completely organic: no chemicals, preservatives, fining or filtering. No added sulfites, only naturally-occuring yeasts, hand made and hand bottled. The 2007 Coturri Albarello ($26) is a red wine abundant with dark ripe fruit. It has a strong personality and opens the palate up with cherry acidity, tobacco and some black pepper spice making this a substantially delicious vino. If you need a red to bring to a cookout, this is it!
Another wine to consider is the 2007 bottling of the Martilde Bonarda. Bonarda is a grape typically cultivated in the northern regions of Italy, like Piedmont and Lombardy. The unique qualities of Villa Martilde’s expression of Bonarda is a red wine with flavors of both the juicy Barbera grape and the great acidity and wild herb qualities of nebbiolo. This is a delicious wine modestly priced at $14 a bottle and is a perfect date for grilled sausages or any dish with mushrooms. These two wines along with a few others will be featured at the tasting table this Friday from 5 to 7 (no tasting Saturday). This week’s sale only makes our wine selection an even stronger value allowing you maximum enjoyment for very little coin.
Cheers!,
Fred Mullins
